This guidance explains the standards (appropriate measures) that are relevant to regulated facilities with an environmental permit to treat or transfer all types of WEEE.
The guidance also applies to sites that treat or transfer materials derived from the processing of WEEE that require further treatment to comply with the WEEE Directive. For example, the sorting and segregation of WEEE plastic containing brominated flame retardants.
There’s additional guidance on the appropriate measures for facilities that treat or transfer waste temperature exchange equipment (WTEE). If your facility is permitted to treat or transfer WTEE then you must comply with both this guidance and the WTEE guidance.
There’s separate guidance for sites that treat or transfer other types of waste. If you treat or transfer WEEE at a site that handles other types of waste, for example at a metal recycling site or a household waste recycling centre, you must still follow the relevant parts of this guidance that apply to your WEEE activities.
Some of this guidance is also relevant to the T11 exemption and other exempt activities involving the treatment or storage of WEEE. Following the relevant parts of this guidance will help you:
