The Governing Council took note of the allocation to the Project Accelerator Unit (PACU) of the initiative promoted by the company Setraoil to build in Níjar (Almeria) a plant that will transform the plastic waste from greenhouses into a type of fuel called pyrolytic fuel for use in heating boilers in the greenhouses themselves or in other installations in the industrial or building sector.

The project has been assessed by the General Secretariat of Industry and Mines of the Ministry of Industrial Policy and Energy. It will require an investment of five million euros and create 46 jobs during the construction phase. In its subsequent development, it will produce a new type of fuel that will allow the reuse of plastic waste (polyethylene and polypropylene), for which there are currently no recycling solutions. This fuel will be used to supply the thermal needs of the new industrial facilities, detailed the Junta de Andalucía in a statement.

The plant will be able to process more than 6,200 tons of plastic waste per year, and the production process used for the conversion of waste into fuel will be based on pyrolysis technology, resulting in a light fuel oil with less than 0.1% sulfur.

The Governing Council also took note of the allocation to the Project Accelerator Unit of five initiatives by Andalusian companies to implement photovoltaic installations for self-consumption within the framework of the package of measures to preserve the competitiveness of industry in Andalusia in the face of the international raw materials and supply crises, with a total investment of 8.3 million euro.
