B-Seals can be separated from tires to promote tire repairability after a puncture

Nashville, Tennessee – Bridgestone Americas and Dow have partnered to develop an “industry first” recyclable, silicone-based tire sealant technology, which will be unveiled during the 2022 Silicone Expo in Detroit later this month.

Developed over four years, B-Seals technology is claimed to provide “excellent sealant performance” in the event of a puncture, said Bridgestone in a statement 15 June.

Unlike conventional sealants that are difficult to separate from tires, the silicone-based sealant can be efficiently removed after application.

This, said the tire maker, will promote tire repairability and potentially extends the amount of time a tire is in service.

As the sealant is removable and recyclable, the technology also supports end-of-life tire recycling and enables tire material circularity, Bridgestone added.

According to the tire maker, approximately, one-third of all new passenger vehicles sold in the US are not equipped with a spare tire, and therefore require extended mobility solutions such as self-sealing and run-flat tire technologies.

Bridgestone will initially offer tires with B-Seals sealant technology to electric vehicles’ original equipment manufacturers.
